| The College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at Xiamen University comprises the Departments of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Materials Science. It also administers the Institutes of Physical Chemistry, Modern Analytical Chemistry and Chemical Engineering Plant. The State Key Laboratory for Physical Chemistry of Solid Surfaces and the Research Laboratory of Analytical Science for Materials and Life Chemistry are located within the College. Established in 1991, the College has a long tradition of excellence. Five members of its faculty are members of Chinese Academy of Sciences?physical chemists CAI Qi-Rui, TIAN Zhao-Wu, ZHANG Qian-Er, WAN Hui-Lin and analytical chemist HUANG Ben-Li. Five other academicians?LU Jia-Xi, DENG Cong-Hao, LIN Shang-An, LIANG Jin-Kui and WU Xin-Tao graduated from the Department of Chemistry at Xiamen University. Today, the College is recognized as one of the leading centers for research and education and training of young chemists and chemical engineers in the country. Among its faculty of 162, including 5 academicians, there are 45 professors. Six of its younger professors have been awarded the National Distinguished Young Scientist Grant from the Natural Science Foundation of China, three members have entered the program of Young Scientists for Transcentury sponsored by the State Ministry of Education of China, three members have obtained the Special Grant for Excellent Middle-aged and Young Scientists. |
